[noun] a strong desire to travel .

a soundtrack for your journey

I know you know how it feels when you get the old feeling back you had while traveling, simply just by pressing the PLAY button on your iPod a minute before you hit the sack during the night. Yes, a traveling playlist. Admit it or not, some songs can recall the specific situations, unconsciously remind you of places you’ve visited, people you’ve met or even the loved ones. People often list their favorite songs solely based on the memories given by the songs, whether the songs can perk them up or tear them apart inside. Aware of this, I begun to compile some songs into a traveling playlist prior to my trips. And here are some of them and the stories behind…

1. “Dream A Little Dream of Me” - The Mamas and The Papas

I dislike winter and cold. Back in February 2011, Norway’s weather was getting worse and worse. Despite of the beautiful-all-white scenery caught in my eyes, I hated wearing many layers of cotton to keep me warm which turned me into a puffy thing. Worse than that, I can barely sleep at night throughout winter. Earphone on, got The Mamas and The Papas played on my iPod and, sweet dream. Ah, heater on please!

Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your kiss
I’m longing to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

2. “Tiga Hari Untuk Selamanya” - Float

My compass was pointing to the east! I went to Malang along with my significant other for 3 days or so by train. We had planned this trip earlier this year upon our arrivals in this blessed homeland from our separate vacations. We got to know each other better on that short trip we went within the gap-days between his exam weeks. Though we’re still friends up until now, it still left me to wonder why we could get along together very well in the first place, neither me nor him know :p Well, if we were ever meant to be together from the beginning, we would be.

bagai mimpi terwujud tak disadari
kata hati tak semua didengarkan lagi
waktu berpacu harap pun jadi
hasrat tuk memiliki
kini tersisa reka semata
cara untuk kembali

semula indah terasa
mereka seribu rencana

mungkinkah hati miliki kembaran rasa
semua henti di sana…

3. “Storms in Africa” - Kitaro (Enya - New Age)

Please do me a favor: once you go to arid, hot, with a few-signs-of-life places like desert, tundra or savannah; listen to this song and tell me how it constantly feels! You might imagine you’re somewhere in Africa, crawling with the tigers, stupidly pull the tape to measure your height up to compare it to the giraffes in the dry grass surrounded by the hazel shrubs. Just like what I imagined when I played this instrumental song on repeat in Cappadocia, Turkey. I wished I could have found a cheetah.

4. “Seaside” - The Kooks

Watch the sunrise or sunsets on the beach = the most classic way to watch the world goes by during vacation! It’s all about sun, sand and get tanned, and one thing you could do to survive on the beach is by sinking yourself before the sun gets up higher. I can’t mention any particular beach to be listed on my favorite ones (Jogjakarta’s and Nusa Tenggara’s are to die for, anyway) but I consistently play this song once I have nights and days where the sand is my seat and spend most of my time walking along the shore. Last time I spent most of my time on the beach was two months ago when I visited Darwin, Australia. Beach O beach, I find you to be the most replenishing..

Do you want to go to the seaside?
I’m not trying to say that everybody wants to go
I fell in love at the seaside
I handled my charm with time and slight of hand

Do you want to go to the seaside?
I’m not trying to say that everybody wants to go
I fell in love at the seaside
She handled her charm with time and slight of hand, and oh
